Mirror, Signal, Manaaaaaaaaaaargh!

A couple of weeks ago, driving from Hereford towards Worcester, I joined a line of traffic behind a large,
slow HGV at the bottom of Fromes Hill. One of the vehicles was a towed caravan, so the overtaking procession took some time when we reached the dual lane section. I was about half way up the hill when it was my turn, and on completion I had a brief conversation with myself as to whether it was worth overtaking anyone else, or, with the 40mph limit looming around the bend, should I just bite the bullet and slot in?

I decided on the latter course of action, reinforced by the fact that a black Audi was flying up the hill behind me, and I didn’t really want to keep him behind me. He must have decided to do what he did at the same time that I indicated and began to move to the left. What happened next you can see on the video.

For those who haven’t come across it, Operation Snap is a National initiative giving drivers the opportunity to submit dashcam footage to their local police force. I’m no snitch, but people such as the Audi driver need to be reminded of their responsibilities to other road users. Within an hour of uploading the video via a simple to use process, I received confirmation that action would be taken. I will not hear anything else unless I am required to be a witness in court - something you have to agree in advance.

A salutary lesson in the use of mirrors, I’m sure you’ll agree.
